Liz Hendry Wedding Pianist had a wonderful day playing for Mr and Mrs Tudor at Merewood Hotel in the Lake District. What spectacular views and a beautiful wedding. Kirsty found Liz after a wedding fair when she was looking for a Lake District Pianist.
We found Liz through her husband who was playing at a wedding fair and I got in touch to see if she was available and willing to travel to the lakes. Thank God she was! Liz is so lovely and was happy to answer any questions we had before the day. We asked for songs from her repertoire but I also wanted my bridesmaids to walk down to the piano version of ‘May it be’ by Enya and it wasn’t a problem. I heard it playing before I walked down the aisle and it was beautiful. I chose to have Jonathan Cain’s version of the Bridal March and I don’t think I’ve had a feeling like it. Just before I walked down the aisle I heard the most beautifully played song and it made the experience absolutely perfect. I couldn’t have hoped for anything better. Liz then played for our drinks reception and wedding breakfast and got the whole place singing along to the Disney songs. I really can’t thank you enough Liz! Everyone has commented on how good you are and I’m so glad we chose you. I only wish I could’ve been a guest so I could’ve sat and listened all day xx Thank you
Liz performed at our recent wedding on a glorious sunny day at our outdoor wedding ceremony! She very kindly agreed to learn a song we wanted, to play us down the aisle, which she did within days of us booking. She absolutely MADE our wedding day, arriving early so that all our guests received the ambience of her tinkering away as they had pre-ceremony drinks on the terrace, during the ceremony, right through canapés and photos up to our evening reception. She was so kind, friendly and courteous and everyone raved about how good she was! Absolutely first class performance – thanks for everything Liz! Love Mr and Mrs Grimes xxx
Possibly the most important decision for any couple about to marry, is choosing a song for walking down the aisle.
Who walks down the aisle and who waits?
Traditionally the groom waits for the bride at the alter, in church. With civil ceremonies the groom waits for the bride at the end of the aisle, where the registrars are placed. An old-fashioned tradition seems to be that the groom shouldn’t turn around and look at the bride until she is next to him but this is outdated, and I can’t imagine a bride doesn’t want to be seen by her groom as she walks down the aisle looking so beautiful! These days children are often included in this lovely moment which makes it all the more special.
Same Sex Weddings
In more recent years this walk down the aisle takes many forms, especially with same sex weddings. I have played at weddings where one partner has waited for the other or sometimes both partners walk down the aisle, either separately or together. This decision should be made based on making the ceremony feel special, and whatever makes both partners feel comfortable. One of the most important factors to consider when walking down the aisle is the song.
Popular in 2019 for walking down the aisle
I have compiled list of all the songs chosen for me to play on the piano, for walking down the aisle, during 2019.
The most chosen song, which has been popular for a number of years is ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri from the Twilight films. I played this for 15 wedding ceremony entrances this year. It was also requested by countless couples where I was playing during the drinks reception or wedding breakfast. It is a very popular and beautiful wedding song.
Also popular for walking down the aisle in 2019 was Pachelbel’s Canon (5 weddings) for a more traditional entrance. Jonathan Cain’s Bridal March (5 weddings) is also popular for a traditional entrance with a modern twist.

I hope this gives you some ideas when thinking of a song for walking down the aisle and as always, I would advise keeping it live, as having a live musician can have a wonderful impact on your wedding ceremony! Happy Wedding Planning!
I received some lovely feedback from Aimee and Tom who are an absolutely stunning couple, married at The Oak Tree Of Peover in December with catering from the superb Vanilla in Allseasons.

Sandhole Oakbarn Pianist Liz Hendry played for Mr and Mrs Gaitskell for their beautiful Cheshire wedding.
We had Liz play at our wedding last week at Sandhole Oakbarn and we can only thank her for the beautiful music and atmosphere this created on the day. We first became aware of Liz through a wedding fair and as soon as we heard her play we were in love. She’s an exceptionally talented pianist and she played everything we asked for during our ceremony and wedding breakfast to an amazing standard. We had so many comments from guests about how great the live music was and there were a couple of times during the day I felt goosebumps because of the music. Liz was also very friendly and professional and it was a delight to have her on the day. Thoroughly recommend Liz for your wedding music ?
‘Liz is amazing!! She went out of her way to make our day even more special. She learnt a number of songs for us and really understood our taste for the rest of the songs she played. The piano sounded amazing and people were singing and bopping along through the wedding breakfast! On the run up to the wedding she replies quickly to my endless messages!! She helped my friend prepare who sang at the ceremony with her above and beyond what she needed to and even offered her microphone to her. I cannot get over how professional, friendly and talented she is! I would recommend again to anyone!!’
Chloe and Gareth Fairclough were married on Saturday 16th November at the beautiful and stylish Ashfield House in Standish, Wigan. What a stunning winter wedding with beautiful room dressing. This included white pumpkins, and flowers and foliage designed in all different and complimenting shades of purple by Sarah from The Rose Boutique.
Unique Music Choices
Chloe and Gareth were keen for their ceremony music to be unique, and a reflection of themselves and their diverse tastes in music. Chloe walked down the aisle to my arrangement of ‘Always’ by Blink 182 and for the grand exit they chose ‘Shooting Star’ by Air Traffic. This was an amazing song to play, which I was delighted to learn it, especially for them. Their song choices for signing the register also included ‘God Only Knows’ by The Beach Boys, ‘Waterfall’ by The Stone Roses and ‘Love You Til’ The End’ The Pogues, which featured in the film ‘PS I Love You.’
I was pleased to receive a review from Chloe the next day which said
“Liz played at our wedding (ceremony and drinks reception) on Saturday and was absolutely incredible ? She played a great mix of songs for us and we were so made up hearing them! Liz is so talented (my mum has cried every time she’s heard Liz play!) and a lovely person, we’re so glad you were at our wedding! Thank you x”
This review can be found on my Facebook page alongside many other reviews written by my brides and grooms.
I’m very proud to be recommended at Ashfield House and am always pleased when couple choose me to provide their wedding music. I try to make every wedding unique, and a special day to remember for each couple.

“Liz played the piano for the ceremony, drinks reception and wedding breakfast at our Knowsley Hall wedding on 16th December. Wow, ourselves and our guests were blown away with how amazing she was. Liz played all of the tunes we love and during the wedding breakfast my Dad and I enjoyed guessing what musical the music was from. I can’t imagine our day without Liz there. We can’t recommend Liz enough, thank you so much.”
Thanks to the beautiful Rebecca Rogers who was married at Knowsley Hall. I was delighted to play the piano for her wedding in December 2018
Mr and Mrs Shaw looked for a wedding pianist for their Cheshire wedding at Delamere Manor
Check out this review by Mrs Shaw, the beautiful bride from this Cheshire wedding at Delamere Manor. This was another wonderful wedding and it featured a beautiful outdoor ceremony. You will see from the pictures below Liz performed outside, made possible by the beautiful, white Dutchgrand that it so integral to her look.
We were lucky enough to book you for our wedding in April and we are so glad we did! You were amazing and totally exceeded our expectations! You made our ceremony so special. The wedding breakfast was so relaxed with you playing, all of our guests commented on how amazing it was! Not only that, but you are a lovely lady who has been a pleasure to deal with right from the start! Thanks Liz, for adding that perfect touch to our big day! xxx

Another beautiful outdoor wedding ceremony featuring the white Dutchgrand at Cheshire Wedding Venue, Delamere Manor
Jessica and John were married at the beautiful Sandhole Oak Barn in Cheshire with bespoke piano music from Liz Hendry who they highly recommend!
Sandhole Oak Barn is a another fantastic cheshire wedding venue. This is particularly nice because they have a lovely, well maintained grand piano in the ceremony room. However, to give the bride and groom flexibility to hold their wedding drinks reception outside by the water, Liz was happy to set up the Dutchgrand white baby grand piano under the pergola by the water. See how they recommend her in their kind review.
Just wanted to say a huge thank you again to Liz for playing at our wedding. We cannot recommend Liz enough. She is so lovely and right from the beginning we knew she would make our day extra special. She has such a wide repertoire and was accommodating to all our requests for the day. Her playing is absolutely stunning and it just added that extra special sparkle to our day. We had so so many comments from our guests about how good she was – one guest even said they wanted to take her home with her!! We would 100% recommend her for any weddings/special occasions.
Thank you again Liz – it wouldn’t have been the same without you!
